Humanitarian corridors: What we know so far

After yesterday’s devastating news broke out about the mined humanitarian corridors, today’s attempts seem to have so far partly gone to plan.

Some civilians have been able to flee the areas of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Mariupol during a ceasefire. Today’s attempts come after the previous attempts within recent days failed, with Russian troops brutally shelling and shooting at the civilians trying to escape.

So far in Mariupol, Russian military have once again violated a temporary ceasefire, where civilians are facing a shortage of food, medicine, electricity and water.

In Sumy, 723 civilians were able to evacuate through a humanitarian corridor, the RIA has reported.

Convoys of 20 to 30 cars are also leaving the city in waves, according to the regional governor of Sumy.

It is alleged that plans to evacuate civilians from Irpin are currently underway, however it is not clear what route they will take.
